It Ain’t Shakespeare Does Wannado City

Orlando, Florida, November 2004 At Wannado City near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, kids don’t have to grow up to do something cool, they can do what they wannado right now! It Ain’t Shakespeare, an Orlando creative services company, helped develop the creative nuts and bolts of this one-of-a-kind attraction, where kids can become anything from a paleontologist on a fossil dig to a pizza chef or a criminal investigator.

It Ain’t Shakespeare worked on the cutting-edge theme park for nearly a year, adding inspiration and fun to each of its 38 venues. Their creative contributions include storylines and dialogue for all of the venues, scripts for the Movie Studio, Radio Station, Circus, and Library, plus three crime solving mysteries for the Crime Lab – all originally written material.

“We also wrote Peter Pan in Wannadoland for the Broadway Theater, where kids get to rehearse and perform a play with professional lights, sound, and costumes,” said It Ain’t Shakespeare president, Colette Piceau . “George Colangelo directed Peter Pan and I wrote, directed, and produced Creepy Sleepy Hollow, a special Halloween show.”

And they didn’t stop there. It Ain’t Shakespeare also wrote scripts for the how-to videos kids watch in some of the venues, where they learn how to operate on a sick patient in the Hospital or how to produce a blockbuster movie trailer at the Movie Studio. It Ain’t Shakespeare even pulled together the Art Direction for some of the venues, purchasing props, furnishings, and costumes for the Fashion House, the Crime Lab, and the Broadway Theater. Just before the park opened, they also ran the training sessions for all of the Wannahelpers.

“What a challenge, working from the ground up on a prototype attraction,” says Piceau. “We had to draw upon all of our creative resources to bring it together. But the entire creative team was amazing...we all worked so hard and under such tight deadlines. It was exhilarating, a great experience!”
